Before you second file and amend key details (such as the date of birth) for a Director or a Person with Significant Control (PSC), you must confirm how and when they were originally notified to Companies House. This determines which correction process and form you will use.

Step-by-Step: Checking the Original Appointment or Notification

1. Go to Companies House Online

• Visit the Companies House search page.

2. Search for Your Company

• Enter your company name or number.
• Select the correct company from the results.

3. Access the Filing History

• Open the Filing history tab for your chosen company.

4. Find the Relevant Filing

• For Directors:
  Look for "Appointment of director" (AP01) or "Incorporation" (IN01):
  • If an AP01 is present, this director was appointed post-incorporation.
  • If only IN01 is present, they were appointed as part of the incorporation.
• For PSCs:
  • If the company was incorporated on or after 6 June 2016 (when PSC regulations came into force), the PSC will usually have been:
    • Included on the IN01 at incorporation, or
    • Notified with a PSC01 if added after incorporation.
  • If the company was incorporated before 6 June 2016, the first PSC notification could have been made on the first Confirmation Statement (CS01) filed on or after 30 June 2016.

5. Confirm the Appointment/Notification Date

• The filing date or effective date on these forms shows when the director or PSC was officially recorded by Companies House.

Why Is This Important?

• The original notification method determines which correction process and Companies House form you’ll use (e.g., RP01 for register rectification).
• Do not rely solely on any software or internal appointment date—always consult the official Companies House filing history.
