When a director is appointed (either at formation or at a later stage) it is a requirement that they provide their residential address to Companies House.

Companies House treats the details of a director's residential address as 'protected information.'

Companies House do not let members of the public see 'protected information.' The residential address is only available to certain government bodies, including the Police, HMRC and credit reference agencies.

There is a Statutory Provision (s.243 Companies Act 2006) for anyone who considers that there is a serious risk that they, or a person who lives with them, will be subject to violence or intimidation as a result of the activities of at least one of the companies which they are or were a director, such that credit reference agencies should not be able to see the residential address.

To apply to Companies House to prevent disclosure of the director's residential address to credit reference agencies requires the individual to complete form SR04 (available from Companies House) which must be submitted with a written statement of the grounds for making the application together with the applicable fee.
