Inform Direct keeps a detailed record of changes and filings so you can see what has happened, who did it, and when. You can review this at both:
- Company level – on each company’s dashboard
- Account/portfolio level – using the reporting tools
1. Tracking recent activity for a single company
On a company’s dashboard, you can see a Recent activity section. This will typically show:
- The date of each action
- The type of change (e.g. share allotment, officer change, address update, filing submitted)
- The status (draft, submitted to Companies House, accepted/rejected, etc.)
This gives you a quick, at-a-glance view of what has changed for that company and the filings made.
2. Viewing filing history
Each company also has a Filing history view. This brings together:
- Filings made via Inform Direct
- Filings made directly at Companies House (once they appear on the public record)
From here you can:
- See which forms were filed, on what date.
- Open or download copies of submissions and related documents (where available)
3. Using reports to view activity across companies
If you manage multiple companies, use the Reports area to see activity and data across your portfolio. Depending on your subscription, you can:
Run standard reports (e.g. upcoming deadlines, confirmation statements due, officer/PSC changes, share transactions)
- Export reports to Excel for further filtering, sorting, and analysis
- Include additional fields (such as custom fields) where supported
Reports help you:
- Monitor workload and upcoming filings
- Check data quality and spot inconsistencies
- Evidence the changes you’ve made for internal review or client reporting
To access and generate reports:
- Log in to Inform Direct and go to Documents & Reports.
- On the Documents & Templates page, click the Reports button.
- From the Reports page, choose the report you want from the list (for example, Activity report, Alerts, submissions and activity report, Filings due report, etc.).
- Click More details if you want to see what the report includes.
Click the pencil icon next to the report:
- Choose Generate report to run it (often for all relevant companies, with no date range), or
- Choose Customise report (where available) to:
- Limit it to selected companies
- Apply a date range
- Include any custom fields you’ve added to your portfolio.
- Click Generate report; a .xls spreadsheet will download automatically (or you can click the link shown to start the download).
For tracking changes and filings specifically:
- Use the Activity report to see Companies House submissions and activity carried out using Inform Direct, filtered by company and/or date range.
- Use the Alerts, submissions and activity report if you also want to include outstanding alerts and Companies House responses alongside activity.
4. Understanding how changes are tracked
Inform Direct maintains a clear audit trail. In practice, this means:
- Most changes are recorded with the user, date/time, and type of action
- Filings made through Inform Direct are linked to the underlying transaction and documents
- Where data is updated from Companies House, this is handled in a way that preserves your history and registers, rather than simply overwriting records
If you need to evidence what has been done or review historic activity, use the company’s recent activity / filing history together with the Reports section to obtain a full picture. However, this audit log is for submissions, not individual edits to register entries.
So while you can track who submitted filings, you cannot audit every edit to the registers themselves.
