1. Enter the Date of creation of the charge.

You must register a mortgage or charge within 21 days after it has been executed. If it is has not been recorded within this time frame, you will need to acquire a court order to acquire an extension and then you will have to file in a paper format.

2. The Name of the chargee(s).

Note: There is no limit to the amount names included here, however Companies House will only show the first four.

3. Enter the Type of the charge. e.g. ‘Mortgage’; ‘Debenture’; ‘Security over shares agreement’; ‘Legal charge’ or ‘Assignment by way of security’.

4. Enter a brief description of the charge.

Note: If the charge does not cover any specified assets you can enter 'None'.

5. Click the green 'Continue' button.

Where do I put the properties charged, and what do I enter if there are several?

They go in the description field (step 4 above). Describe the specified land (including buildings), ship, aircraft or intellectual property that has been charged, for example the property address and title number.

If there are several properties or assets, describe at least one and add a statement along the lines of "for more details of land, ship, aircraft or intellectual property charged please refer to the instrument". You do not need to list every one. Enter 'None' only where the charge covers no specified land, ship, aircraft or intellectual property. If the description is left blank or says 'None' when the deed charges specified assets, Companies House may reject the filing.

A floating charge over all of the company's property or undertaking is not described in this field; it is recorded in the next step, Registering a Mortgage Wizard - Step 3.
