The Confirmation Statement is the only way to report updates to the shareholders (and their holdings) to Companies House.

Step 7 of the Confirmation Statement wizard lists the shareholders and, if available, the contact address supplied for the shareholder record. How do I add or Change the Shareholder Contact Address?

As a shareholder the only information included in a Confirmation Statement is their:

• Surname e.g. Walsh
• Forename(s) Christina Marie
• Class or Classes of share held e.g. £1.00 Ordinary
• Holding e.g. 1,000

So, the shareholder contact address details included at Step 7 are not sent to Companies House as part of the Confirmation Statement.

If there have been share transactions dated within the confirmation period an updated shareholder list showing the information listed above will be submitted to Companies House on the confirmation statement.

In the event no share transactions have taken place then the above information will not be automatically submitted as the previous shareholders should still be correct. However, at the last step of the process you will be given the option to include a shareholder list if preferred. Please see How do I include a shareholder list on the Confirmation Statement?

Why does it say the shareholding has changed when I haven't transferred or allotted any shares? Inform Direct flags a shareholding change since the last confirmation statement even when there has been no real change in ownership — for example, a shareholder's name or address being corrected, or a formatting change to an existing record can trigger this. It doesn't necessarily mean shares have moved.

It's fine to file the Confirmation Statement as normal even where you believe no substantive share change has occurred — this simply results in the current shareholder list being shown, as described above, and is not a problem.
