Overview
The confirmation date for your company's CS01 confirmation statement is a legally defined deadline. You might wonder whether you can choose a different date or shift the confirmation period. This guide explains how the confirmation date is determined and what options (if any) you have for adjusting it.
How Is the Confirmation Date Set?
- The confirmation date is the "made up to" date for your confirmation statement, usually occurring every 12 months after your previous confirmation statement was filed.
- You cannot freely select or manually override the confirmation date during the filing process.
Filing Early (When You Want to Change the Date)
- If you need to change the confirmation date—such as to update company details held on public record sooner—you can file your CS01 early.
- When you file early, the confirmation period is closed and the confirmation date updates to the date of your submission (or, if you file on or after the expected made up to date, it defaults to the statutory deadline).
- The next confirmation statement will be due 12 months from this new confirmation date.
Filing Restrictions
- You cannot choose any date you wish. The system sets the confirmation date automatically:
- If you file before the due date, it uses the date of your CS01 submission.
- If you file on or after the due ("made up to") date, it uses the statutory made up to date.
- You cannot override this in Inform Direct or Companies House; this is a statutory rule.
Practical Example
- Previous confirmation date: 5 July 2025
- Next due date: 5 July 2026
- If you file on 1 June 2026, the confirmation date will be 1 June 2026.
- If you file on 5 July 2026 or afterwards, the date will be 5 July 2026.
Why Might You File Early?
- To update company details (such as SIC codes, officers, PSCs, or shareholders) before the next statutory deadline.
- To correct records following an import, merger, or recent company change.
Key Points
- The confirmation date cannot be freely chosen or manually set.
- Filing early is the only method to change the confirmation date before it is due.
- Filing late or on/after the due date will default to the statutory made up to date.
