The Class Description is the name given to a particular share class. e.g. Ordinary

Note: This isn't just for small tweaks. You can use this to make a full change to a share class name, as well as a small correction, for example where the name doesn't quite match the wording in the company's articles. It's common for a share class name to drift slightly over years of filing, such as through a historic data import or an earlier typo, but equally the class may simply need renaming entirely. Either way, this doesn't need to be treated as an error requiring a transaction removal or a re-import of the company. Simply edit the Class Description to the name you need below.

To edit the Class Description of a share class:

1. Go to the Share Classes tab and click on the pencil and select Edit share class.

2. This will bring up this screen. Leave the answer as "Change the name and/or the rights of share class"

3. Enter the date of change and select which class you are going to edit.

4. The next screen will give you the opportunity to add the Class Description. You can add the Type of Share too if 'Unknown' is showing. Leave the Prescribed Particulars as displayed unless they too need to be changed. How do I edit the Prescribed Particulars?

5. Then click the green Submit. No message will go to Companies House.

6. You will then have the option to generate the required Companies House form SH08. If you are adding back details because none were returned by Companies House you can finish without generating the form. Otherwise remember to print and send SH08 to Companies House.

7. You will then be returned to the Share Classes tab.

Does changing a class description create a filing?

Changing a class description is treated as a conversion, so Inform Direct produces an SH08. Nothing is sent to Companies House electronically. If you are only correcting a description and don't want an official filing, simply ignore the SH08 Inform Direct produces and don't print or send it.
